“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” – Nelson Mandela
How many times in life do we look at life in fear, frozen in a moment and not even being able to understand what is happening to the world around us? How many times does the caterpillar wish she could just stay wrapped in her chrysalis before she realizes her butterfly self is on the other end?
As you sit here today looking at your life, where do you find yourself? Are you inside some version of a cocoon that you have outgrown, that’s making your anxious, inadequate, and tired, a cocoon that’s making you die a little every day or have you broken through the walls of fear, circumstances, and perceptions to find your own butterfly on the other side?
If you’re still inside the cocoon, let go of what’s holding you back, break down the barriers and take your first flight after crawling on the ground for so long.
And if you’re a butterfly already, what color are you? Are you shining brightly in the morning sun, doing tumbles in the air, smelling the flowers, getting showered in golden pollen?
I’d love to see myself as a beautiful purple butterfly, full of life and love, laughing and being happy, covered in the golden pollen of life, yet I have days when the comfort of my chrysalis is all I want because I’m too afraid, too tired, because I just don’t want to break through anything anymore. But life is not about being stuck in a cocoon, life is about taking chances, breaking through, extending my wings, and seeing what the world has to offer.
I’m not willing to miss out on something great just because it might be a little hard to break through the surface?
