When we look at our lives, at the kind of people we are and the kind of people we surround ourselves with, we always want to believe that we are good people, that we are fair, that we are an example for everyone around us. Sometimes we are the example of all those amazing values and sometimes we are the exact opposite, but we always strive for the best, we always look to become better, to be proud of ourselves every day.
I wonder if one of the most important super powers we have is actually the power to stand in integrity, to try our best to keep our word, to be consistent. We will fail, we will fall, we will falter, but we can have the courage to stand up again, to try again, to stand in our faith and our integrity to “live so that when our children think of fairness and integrity, they think of us” as H. Jackson Brown, Jr. put it.
It will not be easy every day and for those of us who don’t have kids yet, it might be hard to imagine being a role model for a little person and molding their perception of life, but the feeling it will give us at the end of the day, the feeling that we stood in our power, fairness, and integrity will make us look in the mirror with pride, courage, and faith, with the belief that we never have to be perfect to be great.
