A little while ago, I read this quote by Steve Maraboli “There is nothing more rare, nor more beautiful, than a woman being unapologetically herself; comfortable in her perfect imperfection. To me, that is the true essence of beauty.”
It made me smile. The idea of not only accepting but somewhat reveling in our imperfection and always being unapologetic about it is something that has definitely crossed my mind in the past, but I have to admit I had never seen it as an essence of beauty until he mentioned it. And then I thought about all the people (both men and women) I know who do live life comfortable in their imperfection, always striving for more, but never diminishing who they really are and I realized how truly beautiful they are and how much I admire them at every step. They have that grace in their lives, something not many people have, that ease of going through whatever life throws at them accept it, change it if needed and then move on.
What are the parts inside yourself (both physically and inside your heart) that you’re still holding yourself down for, those parts that somehow make you perfectly imperfect, yet you see them as flaws that diminish your power instead of the light that makes you shine brighter? Isn’t it time you allowed yourself to be unapologetically you?
